Choc-avo tarts

Choc-avo tarts

I’m addicted to eating. Particularly eating sugar. And after I proved to myself I have no self control – I ate a tub of ice cream in a week. My god it was delicious – I figured it was about time I really start eating healthy.
So here’s my question: if I replace all the sugar I eat with honey, does that count as eating healthy?

Wonky horizon, oops. I can’t be bothered editing my photos though. Sorry, la.

Here’s my first attempt at a healthy-ish recipe!
Also how cool is this ‘read more’ thing??

Mini ombre mudcakes

Mini ombre mudcakes

OmbreCakeLayersWas so keen to try making an ombre cake since I started seeing it on various blogs years ago. I chose a white chocolate mudcake because they’re the easiest kind of cake to make. I used this recipe, from taste.com.
I wanted to use strawberry jam to make it strawberry flavoured, so there would be variation in the taste as well as the colour. Unfortunately the jam wasn’t enough to make the cake as pink as I wanted, so I used food colouring too. The bottom layer is kind of purple because I thought about making it purple and added some blue food colouring, but I decided I didn’t like the purple. It looks okay all together though.
OmbreCakeYou could only taste the straberry jam in the bottom layer, but it was much nicer with the jam. If you do try the jam thing, be careful when you take the it out of the oven, because the jam makes the cake really soft. It gets much firmer after sitting in the fridge overnight (and tastier), but I think if you wanted to add more jam, definitely adding some more flour would be worthwhile.

Sponge cakes

Sponge cakes

Over the holidays, I decided I wanted to try again to make a sponge cake, having failed terribly when I tried to make one for my sister earlier in the year.
(Overbaked, so was very dry. Super unpleasent to eat).

I was standing in the asian shop trying to decide whether to purchase ube flavouring, or pandan flavouring. Por que no los dos?
And so…

Ube flavoured sponge, which red bean and honey cream
Ditto, but pandan flavoured. It’s so ridiculously green…

They’re so ridiculously brightly coloured. Neither of the flavours were that stong, but they smelt lovely. Would recommend.

Sketch dump – Melting moments?

Sketch dump – Melting moments?

So my sister does this thing on her DeviantArt account where sometimes she wants to post, but she doesn’t have any completed pieces, so she posts up pieces she’s not 100% happy with or that are uncompleted. She calls them ‘sketch dumps’.

There’s were supposed to be melting moments, which I have made successfully before, but they spread ridiculously this time. I think because I microwaved the butter. Will come back to these again.

The green tea icing was delicious though.

Procrastibaking

Procrastibaking

My old housemate taught me this word.
Unfortunately, I’ve been doing a lot of it these past weeks.

I wanted to see what happened if I didn’t use any butter…

It was disgusting. Looked pretty though. And the chocolate was delicious.

Here are some bad quality phone photos.
Will talk more/repost about these guys when I make successful ones, and take better photos.

Waffle shaped things #1

Waffle shaped things #1

I wasn’t going to blog about waffle shaped things until I got some real photos. But this was pretty exciting, so please excuse the phone photos.

Mum let me take the waffle iron from home!

I was going to wait till I purchased some yeast this weekend, but I was hungry. So I put some butter, honey, milo and flour in a bowl and smashed out this waffle shaped biscuit thing in a couple of minutes.

At least the frozen bananas were healthy…
Can I make another one…?

Easy shortbread

Easy shortbread

Lack of waffle iron led me on a search for a new easy cookie recipe. I found this one, and it’s awesome; I had no idea shortbread could be cut after baked (Wikipedia says this is one of the 3 traditional ways of making it).

ShortbreadRectangles
The lighting is really awkward in this photo, hey. I’m working on my food photo taking skills though!

It was fascinating. I thought it would shatter, because shortbread is so brittle, but it’s soft enough to cut and doesn’t become crispy till a good 10 mintues after it comes out of the oven.
